One of our award-winning original Bakewell Puddings made history on Monday 18th June when it was launched into the earth's stratosphere.
Students from Year 4 at St Anselm's Preparatory School in Bakewell released the Bakewell Pudding into orbit attached to a high-altitude balloon and part of their term project.
However, after being covered locally on BBC Radio Sheffield and BBC Radio Derby, the story hit the national headlines when the pudding went missing.
The balloon's tracking device showed it was at 52,500ft over Saxilby, near Lincoln, when contact was lost. St Anselm's is hoping that the location of the balloon will be discovered, while the pudding even gained celebrity interest after a Tweet about the story by Stephen Fry.
The story has also been covered on the national BBC news, Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, Sky News, iNews, The Metro, The Telegraph, and the Daily Express.
Jemma Beagrie, owner of the Bakewell Bakery, said: "The students wanted to come up with a fun way to raise money for their chosen charity, The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association UK, and we agreed that this seemed like a fun way to do it."
"Our award-winning pudding, which we make using a secret recipe from the 1800s, is popular with locals and tourists and we regularly post them round the world using our Post a Pudding service - but we've certainly never sent one towards space before!"
